Rules and Regulations
Game Rules
Summit League follows FIBA basketball rules unless otherwise stated in these Rules & Regulations.

Games consist of four (4) quarters, each lasting 10 minutes.

Running time is used for all quarters except the final two (2) minutes of the fourth quarter, which will be stop time only if the point differential is less than 15.

A 24-second shot clock is in effect for the entire game.

One (1) minute break between quarters.

Four (4) minute halftime break.
-
Games will start as scheduled. Please arrive on time.

Each team is allowed two (2) timeouts per half.
-
One (1) timeout is granted per team in Overtime 1 (OT1).
-
No timeouts are allowed in Overtime 2 (OT2).
-
Each timeout is 30 seconds long.
-
Unused timeouts do not carry over between halves or into overtime.
Overtime
-
Overtime periods are two (2) minutes in length.

The final 30 seconds of any overtime period will be stop time.

If the game remains tied after OT1, a second overtime (OT2) will be played.

In OT2, the first team to score wins the game (sudden death).
Fouls & Discipline

Players foul out after five (5) personal fouls.

If a team has only five (5) players remaining and a player exceeds five (5) fouls, the opposing team will be awarded two (2) free throws and possession of the ball.

Unsportsmanlike Fouls: Penalty is two (2) free throws and possession. Two unsportsmanlike fouls result in ejection.

Technical Fouls: Penalty is one (1) free throw. Two technical fouls result in ejection.

Zero tolerance for misconduct: Any verbal and/or physical misconduct will result in a one (1) game suspension or more depending on severity.
Attendance, Forfeits & Uniforms

A team must have a minimum of four (4) rostered players present to begin a game and avoid a forfeit.

If a team is not present at tip-off, the opposing team will automatically start the game with a five (5) point lead.

For every minute that passes after the scheduled start time, the present team will be awarded one (1) additional point.

If the opposing team is not present by the end of the first quarter, the game will be declared a forfeit win for the team that showed up.

All players must wear their official team jerseys for each game.

If a registered player shows up without their jersey, the opposing team is automatically awarded two (2) points.
-
If a jersey is lost, the player must purchase a replacement.
-
Jewelry of any kind is not permitted during games due to safety reasons.
Team Rosters & Player Eligibility

Participation in Summit Basketball League is restricted to players aged 18 and older.

Team rosters must include a minimum of six (6) players and a maximum of ten (10) players.

Team names and jersey designs will be pre-set and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Individual players who register without a team will be assigned to a team by the league.

Temporary players are only permitted if a team has four (4) rostered players available at game time. A maximum of two (2) temporary players may be used. The use of temporary players will result in a five (5) point deduction (this includes the jersey penalty).

This deduction also applies if a rostered player is running late and a temporary player begins the game in their place.

Players are permitted to participate in both D1 and D2. However, D2 teams may only have one (1) D1 player in their game lineup at any given time.
Playoffs

All teams qualify for the playoffs.

Playoffs will follow a single-elimination format.

Tiebreakers for playoff seeding will be based on point differential. In the event that point differential is equal, seeding will be determined by the head-to-head matchup between the tied teams.

Each player must participate in at least five (5) regular season games to be eligible for playoffs. Injuries and other exceptions may be reviewed and approved at the league’s discretion.
Payments, Safety & Liability

Summit Basketball League and John Abbott College are not liable for any injuries sustained during games or league events.

All players participate at their own risk.

Full payment is required before the first game of the season.

Once payment is processed, no refunds will be issued
-
Accepted payment method: e-transfer (EMT).
Summit Basketball League reserves the right to modify, update, or remove any of the above rules and regulations at its discretion and without prior notice.
